No More Series Roles for Vanessa Marcil

When Vanessa Marcil signed on for a role on Las Vegas, the actress had no indication that the show would be a hit, lasting five years. If she had known, her decision may have been different because of her dedication to spending time with her son Kassius Lijah, 6 ½. Now, Vanessa says she is not open to another series regular role because her son is “in school now, so it’d mean taking a lot of time away from him.” In the meantime, Vanessa is content with “working at his school and [acting] a little bit” on the side so she can “balance it all a bit more while he’s young” because she knows her little boy is growing up fast. “He’s getting so smart and incredibly creative, and he says really profound things,” explains Vanessa — and that includes deep thoughts about his emergency c-section entrance into the world!

“The other day, he said, ‘Mommy, I’m really sad that you got your stomach cut open. That must have hurt.’ I go, ‘Yeah, sweetie, but I was in labor for two days, and it was worth it because you came out.’ [Laughs] He says, ‘Well, if I’m a woman in my next lifetime, I don’t want a birth canal.’ Um, what?!”

The 40-year-old is doing her best to make sure that her son stays grounded and thankful for all that is in his life  — thanks to some profound advice gleaned from Oprah Winfrey! “‘The Grateful List’ is one of the millions of things that Oprah told me about when I met her at, like, 22 that kind of changed my life,” shared Vanessa. “Every night, I write down everything I feel grateful for. It’s hard to stay with any kind of negative thought when you realize all the things you have to be grateful for.” Kassius has learned by example and now he “has a little journal, and he writes down what he’s grateful for. It’s a great thing.”

Kassius’ dad is actor Brian Austin Green.

Kate Hudson Looking Forward to Downtime With Ryder

As she promotes her new film Bride Wars – for which pulls double duty, as both a co-star and producer — actress Kate Hudson says her mind has already begun wandering to her next big project: downtime with Ryder Russell, turning 5 on Wednesday. “Right now I’m more concerned with having time off,” she tells The Scotsman with a laugh. “I’m ready to have a good, solid six months with my son…I just want to do nothing for a little while.”

Exactly where mother and son will “do nothing” remains to be seen. Despite her Los Angeles upbringing Kate, 29, feels “way more at home in New York.” Raising kids in the Big Apple is “harder” than it is on the West Coast, however, she says.

“Los Angeles is actually nice with children because they can enjoy the outdoors more. Ryder can do activities all year round in California, such as soccer in the winter. On the East Coast it’s harder, unless your kids are into ice hockey.”

Ryder is Kate’s son with ex-husband Chris RobinsonBride Wars is in theaters Jan. 9.

Paz Vega may be remaining mum on her second pregnancy, but the 33-year-old isn’t denying the fact that she can’t wait to have more children. In a new interview, Paz admits that she loves parenting son Orson, 20 months, so much so that “I don’t know how I hadn’t done it before.” “It’s an experience that we’re fortunate to have as women, and I’m eager to repeat it,” the actress revealed. The Spanglish star is amazed by her son and shared that while “he’s not speaking yet” he does “make sounds and says mamá and papá perfectly.”

The native of Spain moved her family to Los Angeles last year, and while she may miss her homeland, she has grown to love California. Paz notes that “Hollywood has treated me well” and that “it’s a wonderful place to raise my son.” Despite living in the States, the actress has made sure to keep some traditions.

“I’ve brought the traditions from Spain to the United States: spending the afternoons with my husband and my son, enjoying the little things … I cook croquetas, and I eat jamón. I keep my diet 100% Mediterranean and drink my Rioja. In that sense, I have a piece of Spain in West Hollywood.”

Paz is married to Orson Salazar.

Update: The cause of Jett’s death has been attributed to a seizure disorder, a friend of the Travolta’s tells PEOPLE. Official results are yet to be disclosed.

See a collection of photos released by the family here.

Originally posted January 2nd: Jett Travolta, the 16-year-old son of actor John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston, died Friday while on vacation with his family in the Bahamas.

Michael Ossi, a lawyer for the family, told Reuters that Jett suffered a seizure at his family’s vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. According to police spokeswoman Loretta Mackey, who spoke with the Associated Press, Jett hit his head in a bathtub Friday morning and was declared dead at Rand Memorial Hospital.

According to a police statement, a caretaker found Jett unconscious in the bathroom around 10 a.m. An autopsy is being pursued to determine the exact cause of death. Attempts were made to revive him, but he died at the scene, Michael said. The death was first reported by TMZ.

Jett, who had a history of seizures, was the only son of John, 54, and Kelly, 46. They also have a daughter, Ella Bleu, 8. In a message on Kelly’s website, the family shares,

“We would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks to everyone who has sent their love and condolences. Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered. We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time we had with him for the rest of our lives. We have received many messages of condolence from around the world and we want to thank everyone for their prayers and support. It has meant so much to us. It is a beautiful reminder of the inherent goodness in the human spirit that gives us hope for a brighter future.”

Annabeth Gish on Life With Her Boys

KM Press Group

Despite a noticeable lack of sleep since welcoming her second son, motherhood for Annabeth Gish has been nothing short of “fun.” However, that isn’t to say that there haven’t been a few bumps in the road — one being Cash Alexander’s adjustment to being a big brother. Although Annabeth reveals her older son is doing “amazingly well” since she brought home 10-week-old Enzo Edward, the toddler has certainly “had his moments, especially when I’m breastfeeding,” the actress admits. With a quick lesson to teach Cash “the difference between poking the baby and gently caressing him,” Annabeth is thankful to have two sons so close in age.

“Just knowing that these two boys will always have each other as constants in their lives, as playmates, brothers, and hopefully best friends, makes it easy to ’suffer’ through momentary overwhelm.”

In an effort to keep Cash, 2 this month, included in the baby’s life from the start, Annabeth shares that after falling in love with the name Enzo during her final stages of pregnancy, she and her husband Wade Allen received a nod of approval from their son. Although the pair had “almost committed to another name,” the Italian moniker Enzo popped into Wade’s head one day, and after cautiously approaching Cash — who had shot down their previous suggestions — he shared his idea with him. “When we asked if he liked Baby Enzo, he immediately repeated it several times and shook his little blonde head affirmatively. We took that as a good sign,” says Annabeth.
